If You Drink Coffee Then You Will Understand...

I geek out about a lot of things. Downton Abbey, crockpot recipes, pregnancy, Daft Punk. Coffee very well may top the list though. Coffee is kind of special.... Do you agree?

I wake in the morning with my head feeling bleary.
The kids were up last night and I need to see more clearly
I stumble down the stairs with a baby on my hip,
She starts to scream "Drink Drink!" and I need to catch my grip.

My husband calls it patience, and others call it Joe.
I don't really care what it's called, I just need some - and pronto.
As soon as I take a drink... somehow I feel more calm.
It's like whispers to the soul, and/or a healing balm.

When out I'm often found in a coffee drive thru line.
It's better than ice cream or soda - really it's divine.
I drive around and feel at ease sipping my chai latte.
I feel great as the caffeine goes through my body.

At home I warm my coffee over and over again.
"It's cool, I'll do it, it's good." my mantra never ends.
I see I'm not the only one as I check my Facebook.
A lot of us without our brew would feel like gobbledygook.

Don't waste your time on decaf coffee; You need some caffeine.
Take it from a coffee pro, my knowledge you can glean.
To java! Espresso! Mocha! Three cheers and a hurray!
Smell it, drink it, love it, buy it, get you some today.

Some fun Coffee Trivia

Dark roasted coffees actually have LESS caffeine than medium roasts. The longer a coffee is roasted, the more caffeine burns off during the process.

Coffee was first known in Europe as Arabian Wine.

Coffee, along with beer and peanut butter, is on the national list of the "ten most recognizable odors."

Coffee, as a world commodity, is second only to oil.

Hawaii is the only state of the United States in which coffee is commercially grown. Hawaii features an annual Kona Festival, coffee picking contest. Each year the winner becomes a state celebrity. In Hawaii coffee is harvested between November and April.

  2. I love coffee! But I am one of those decaf drinkers. Annoying, I know. What's the point?! But it just tastes so goooood! I can give up the caffeine, but not the coffee. Love your poem!

    1. Tarynn, I used to drink decaf too... so not really sure how much I can really say about that. ;) I've unfortunately embraced caffeine now and I'm not sure I could give it up that easily! I agree that coffee in all forms tastes delish!

    1. Haha, Rachael - I LOVE unhealthy creamer. I accidentally poured like 5 tbsp in my coffee yesterday and drank it anyway. Shrugged my shoulders and dove in.

  5. This is awesome!! I don't handle caffeine well so I sadly have to drink decaf most of the time. Every once in a while I can do regular with lots of protein and fat, then I don't turn into a shaking leaf. :)
    Yay for coffee!!
