Camping?! {Transparent Tuesday}

If the question were posed, "What is your ideal vacation?" I could come up with several different answers. Most of them would consist of international travel, expensive lodging, and swanky nights out on the town spent with my manly husband. Let's just be honest, that's my idea of recreation.

As I said, my husband is manly. He is a hair on the chest, strong, outdoorsy type. I like it. I find it very attractive.

Swanky nights on the town aren't really "manly".

My husband had been wanting to go camping for a while. The discussion of a camping trip had come up on more than one occasion.

I've gone camping before several times, but the memory of pit toilets leaves a lasting impression on a girl - and not a good one, I might add. The memory of sleeping in a tent and getting rained out seems to ring a bell too...

However, after seeing the excitement in my children's eyes at the mere mention of sleeping in a tent and the enthusiasm with which my husband expressed I decided I'd give it a go. It helped that our good friends are seasoned campers and wanted to come along for the experience.

So we went camping.

It was rainy the first night.

It was windy and cold the first day.

It was freezing the second and last night.

I loved it. I loved it so hard. We made good food. We had good conversation. We watched our kids run, play games, boat, fish, explore, and laugh.

Who knew that camping could be so incredibly fun!?

I'm not giving up on my idea of an "ideal" vacation, but I have to admit that our camping trip came pretty close. Being out in the fresh air with good friends was the soul food I needed the last couple weeks.

I'm definitely a camping convert.

Today is Transparent Tuesday!

I invite you to link up and join me in an effort to cast aside the filters we use to depict our lives as always being perfect. We all have a story to tell. The best stories are those where ordinary people rise up and work through the tough situations, the unseemly moments, the mundane, and the unglamorous.

All you have to do to link up is:

1. Either merely post a picture that depicts something in an honest way (just for example it could be a dirty room, or a selfie with you without your makeup on). Write a small caption to go along with your picture. OR, instead of a picture you can write a post that gives an authentic glimpse of your life.

2. Copy the url for your post (not your site) in the link below.

3. Finally, last but not least copy the code for the Transparent Tuesday graphic and attach it to your post so that other people can come and see all the other posts for Transparent Tuesday. The more the graphic is shared, the more people will be able to participate!

Thanks for linking up! The graphic and link up are below:

  1. Camping is not always relaxing but a great way to connect in a simple way.

  2. I'm so glad it had a happy ending! Obviously with transparent Tuesday it could have gone either way! I love camping too, though it can be hard work with children so best in smallish doses I think, but sadly my husband is not a fan and I struggle to convert him. He's not after swanky nights out but he does love a comfy bed!

    1. I think it was good we went with friends. It made the work less in that there were more hands helping. I think the next couple times we go we'll go with friends again. Not sure I'm ready for solo family camping! ;) Hope your husband comes around! He might like it as much as I did! I definitely understand the comfy bed thing, though.

  3. I didn't expect this ending! :-) Glad you ended up liking it! I think my ideal vacation is tropical paradise. I'm not a big fan of camping either, but I deal with it because my kids love it so much, even though I could probably count on one hand how many times we've gone. I haven't linked up here in a while. :-( I'm gonna try, and hopefully I'll get to writing something transparent soon. It's been so busy since school started. Take care!

    1. A tropical paradise sounds absolutely divine! I hope you do link up! :)

  4. I wasn't too enthusiastic about camping, either, but it really is such an inexpensive way to spend time in the outdoors connecting as a family. Easy? ma'am!! Relaxing? Sometimes. Worthwhile? Usually! (Hey, we're being honest, right? LOL)

  5. I am proud of you!!! My mom always said as we were growing up, "My idea of camping is a nice hotel room with a view". We didn't have a lot of money growing up, we are just so not the camping types. I have camped in my young adulthood and enjoyed it, but with kids? You're brave. And not only brave, you found pleasure in it all. Well done!!!

  6. I am not too fond of camping myself, as I am a city girl but live in the country. Beautiful pictures! You can definitely make fun memories while camping and forget the electronics and enjoy life as a family.

  7. This looked like so much fun, despite the weather, it looks beautiful!!! I'm glad you enjoyed the trip!
