We have a paper chain in our house right now that has only 3 loops left on it, which means only 3 days until Spring! I'm not going to lie and say that I'm not ecstatic. I am so.excited. This winter has been what winter should be, snowy, cold, blustery, and actually quite lovely. Under the polar vortex we've had unusually sunny days giving way to gorgeous sunrises and extra bright snow. Regardless, I'm beyond ready for Spring.
This will be our third Spring in this house. We live in a weird little corner of our neighborhood. We have the only "natural" pond, which means that all the wildlife gives preferential treatment to our back yard. For a homeschooling family this, simply put, is awesome. We get to experience a lot of nature that we didn't think we would find right in our own back yard.
Of course with the warmer weather we'll be outside a lot more. We'll be playing in the mud, getting our hands back into the soil planting gardens, cleaning up the yard, and engaging in nature studies.
There is inevitably always a nest in the tree that sits beside our deck. We get to watch as a Robin spends time carefully constructing a nest with mud, grass, and whatever else it can find. Robins egg blue is seriously one of my favorite colors.
We regularly see Painted Turtles and Snapping Turtles.
Last, but not least we get to see the little ducklings and goslings. Sometimes they even traipse through the yard.
